5 Must-See Attractions in NOLA

Travel Destination - Shelia - March 18, 2021

New Orleans, Louisiana, or “NOLA” to the locals, is exactly as magical a place as you’ve heard. Literally, in fact, if you know anything about its history as a voodoo hotspot. Like voodoo, NOLA is the result of a unique mixture of French, Creole, and West African heritages. A vacation there promises a nonstop overload of colorful art, architecture, cuisine, culture, and history.

Visiting your favorite destination by bike is one of the most romanticized way of travel. Since most part of the United States is bike friendly you will get a best travel experience. Since you are independent of train or flight tickets, you may keep on going and change your travel schedule on your own way. You are likely to meet plenty of peoples  and also strike a good friendship with them. Since bike insurance is mandatory in every country you have to get one for your bike. Honestly, if you want to see every awesome thing the area has to offer, you might as well start scoping out New Orleans houses for sale. Otherwise, make the most of your trip with this list of five of the most must-see attractions in NOLA.

The French Quarter

Let’s get the big one out of the way first. If you only have time enough to do one thing on this list, make it a priority to visit the French Quarter.

If you can, see it in all its debauched glory in the manic midst of Mardi Gras. Even if you can’t (or won’t) brave NOLA during the height of pandemonium, though, the French Quarter will still make a big impression. Built on the banks of the Mississippi River and including the famed Bourbon Street among its features, this is the very heart and soul of NOLA: row after row of decadent restaurants, dazzling art galleries, and roaring nightclubs.

Abita Mystery House

We go from NOLA’s most famous attraction to one of its best hidden gems. You’re not likely to find Abita Mystery House on many other must-see lists, but what is good putting together such a list if you can’t include some off-the-beaten-path oddities.

Abita Mystery House knows a thing or two about oddities. This confounding roadside museum is an eclectic tribute to all things strange and unusual. From folk art and taxidermy exhibits to the remains of a trailer that was supposedly struck by a UFO, it will definitely make for some memorable snapshots. Just don’t forget to say hi to Darrel the Dogigator (half-dog, half-gator) and Edmond the Allisapien (half-gator, half-man) before you leave.

New Orleans Jazz Museum

Arguably, nothing defines the city of New Orleans better than jazz music. The streets are dotted with countless venues where greats of the past and present alike have played. It’s difficult to nail down any one must-visit site for the music-loving tourist.

If you want to get as complete an overview of Louisiana’s jazz history as possible, though, then the best recommendation might just be the New Orleans Jazz Museum, whose priceless relics include the first jazz record ever pressed and instruments once owned and played by such legends as Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Sidney Bechet, and more.

Café Du Monde

No trip to New Orleans would be complete without gorging on foods that would drive a cardiologist to tears. Crawdads. Gumbo. Po-boys. Tastiest of all, though, might just be the beignets at Café Du Monde.

A NOLA landmark since 1862, this open-air, up-all-night coffee shop has long been fattening stomachs with its trademark combination of café au lait and fluffy, hot, fried doughnuts blanketed beneath a mountain of powdered sugar. One taste and you’ll agree, they’re worth every extra mile you’ll have to jog.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1

If Abita Mystery House wasn’t too macabre for you, St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 ought to be right up your alley. It’s the oldest and most storied graveyard in NOLA, but don’t expect to find the restless dead buried here.

See, with New Orleans so prone to flooding, local cemeteries opt not to inter the dearly departed in the earth, but rather entomb them in morbidly beautiful above-ground mausoleums. Walking through this necropolis is like wandering through a miniature city full of unusually silent citizens. St. Louis Cemetery’s most famous resident? The voodoo queen herself, Marie Laveau.

4 Budget-Friendly and Kid-Friendly Beach Ideas

Travel Stories - Shelia - January 26, 2021

Beach

If you have already planned a beach vacation but are struggling to think up relatively inexpensive activities your family would love, trying something new may help add a bit of excitement to your normal trip. With a bit of ingenuity, you can include everyone in these fun games.

Make Up a Sport

Many younger children may want to participate in beach volleyball or other sports but are not quite big enough to do so. In lieu of those activities, you can try making up ones of your own.

Using an inflated ball and a beach towel, you could try setting up a two-person competition to see who can keep the bouncing ball on the towel the longest. You can also adjust the rules as you go along based on what each child enjoys most, which also helps prevent any fights or meltdowns for younger players.

Collect Souvenirs

With seashells, sea glass and other items scattered all around you near the waves, it is easier than ever to encourage your kids to interact with nature on your North Carolina family vacation. Rearranging anything you find into a picture in the sand near your beach chair can also help encourage creativity in yAour kids while you relax. Afterward, you can even pack up what your kids find in a plastic bag in case you want to scrapbook or save them for future memories.

Use Sand to Your Advantage

While it may be irritating to some, sand can be a great basis for drawing up common sidewalk games while you are far away from home. Hopscotch and tic tac toe are more fun for any kid when they are standing in soft sand with waves nearby.

It also is infinitely easier to draw and redraw potential boundaries or outlines, as well as add in extra twists to make the games more interesting for slightly older children who want to play along.

Go Sightseeing on Your Own Terms

Walking along the coast allows you to point out new sights to younger kids. Make laminated flashcards of words ahead of time and bind them up in a ring for easy carrying, and you can help expand your children’s vocabulary even while on vacation.

You can even add an extra challenge by making it a game to point out what is on the pictures, such as a dune, riptide or kite. This idea allows you to make lasting memories you all can talk about for years to come as well as get some exercise in.

Luggage Review: Antler Juno Cabin Suitcase

Travel Tips - Shelia - December 3, 2020

I have many different cabin luggage, backpacks, and suitcases in many different sizes- some with wheels, a few without- since different types of excursions need various types of luggage.

Antler are among my favorite luggage manufacturers, and over the years I have obtained all kinds of luggage out of them because their headquarters and mill shop chance to be found in my home town of Bury. If they asked me to review their Antler Juno bag, I was pleased to check it out since I understand their suitcases are always of top quality.

The Juno bag is instead a hot bit of bag, and I was fairly impressed. Have a look at this poor boy.

Offered in various distinct colors, the Juno Moderate bag definitely gets the X factor when it comes to appearances. I love the white color, and it’ll surely stick out at baggage reclaim. You do not see many white instances on the conveyor belt! It’s easy to spot, and you do not need to worry so much about somebody else walking away with your luggage.

It is a tough shell case and to be very honest I’ve been against these sorts of suitcases due to the weight problem, but you will be please to understand this one feels fine and light, weighing 3.3 kg or 7.3 pounds. The polypropylene casing is tough and durable also, ensuring that the bag is super powerful.

The Antler Juno includes four hardy 360-degree rotating wheels to offer you total maneuverability. Only a note: using such suitcases, you’re intended to push them together vertically, rather than dragging them.

But let us get down to the essential details, will we- like the number of gowns and pairs of sneakers can it hold?! I’d say it is ideal for shorter one-week excursions, but you are going away for more, or you don’t travel light, you may want to buy the big edition.

I really like this bag because it divides into 2 halves, meaning it’s easy to get in your stuff. It’s possible for you to zip a number of your possessions on the other side of the net cap and fasten the remainder of your material on the opposite side together with all the clip fastener. There is also a modest long side-pocket for additional bits and bobs.

Being an Antler solution, it is well-made, and they indeed focus on detail. The situation comes with an inbuilt TSA combination lock, so it is a breeze if you are traveling in the united states, and also you do not need to obtain another padlock for your own bag. The zippers are also quite hardy, and the manage slides in and out quite quickly. The accent is on ‘Great British Style’- there is even a tag saying – and I must agree it is very nicely designed. In case, however, it includes a 10-year guarantee, so I do not need to fret about it packaging me up!
